Hi there! Thanks for visiting my site. I’m an Accredited Practising Dietitian and I created this site because I want to show you how to take the effort out of living a healthy life.
As a Dietitian, I spent years teaching people about what healthy eating is, and giving advice on what changes people should make to their diets. But we all know that change isn’t easy! And when I got promoted to a stressful management position and started working long hours, it became increasingly difficult for me to find the energy to put a healthy, home cooked meal on the table. And I didn’t even have kids! We (my husband and I) began spending a lot on takeaway meals, and buying our lunch at work. Even though we chose ‘healthier’ options, I knew we weren’t being ‘healthy’ overall. I now finally understand what all you busy, stressed out mums and workers have been trying to tell me: When you’re tired, strung out, or have bigger issues to think about than cooking, eating healthily can feel like an impossible task.
The next step in my rebirth as a busy, stressed out professional was to get creative with meals that were very easy and very fast. The key to the success of these meals was the amount of perceived effort that it took to make them. If I had to chop, chop, chop away at loads of vegetables or meat, or stand over the stove stirring, stirring, stirring…. It just wasn’t going to happen. So the meals I made had shortcuts, such as commercially made marinades and sauces, and canned or frozen vegetables that were already cut up for me. Sure, not as healthy as the meal from scratch, but they were still nutritious and really tasty! And a thousand times better than a greasy takeaway pizza.
That’s when I had the idea to put my learnings down on paper (well, online).I’m here to show you that you can feed yourself and your family healthy, delicious food with little effort. Rather than ram all kinds of useless information about food and nutrition down your throat, I’m aiming to give you a website that is practical (i.e. focusses on meals rather than nutrition)… And you will learn about nutrition and healthy eating along the way.
The meals have to meet a few criteria to make it on to the website; they have to be either fast, easy, or both. The ‘weeknight’ meals are faster and easier than the ‘weekend meals’, but none of the meals on this website are ultra complicated or fancy. Sure, they are still worthy of serving to guests, but they do not require you to be a Master Chef contestant to make them. I’ve even got a ‘really couldn’t be bothered’ section – the meals in this section can be made in 120 seconds or less. Not kidding!
While this website is not owned by a government organisation or university, and is not written to be overly professional and formal, the information is still accurate, up-to-date, and based on the most recent evidence. The content is as easy to read as possible. Fasteasyhealthy.com is an informal, relaxed and fun community that anyone can be a part of. For this reason, I have not laden my articles and information with a long list of references. However, I do keep a record of all of the sources I have referred to in creating my content, so please feel free to get in touch with me if you would like to know where a particular piece of information or advice came from. I will be more than happy to provide it to you.
So if you’re interested so far, bear with me over the coming weeks and months as I develop my blog. It’s all in my head right now – just need to get it all out for you!
